Reactive vs. Proactive Mindset, Which one is running your business?

Happy 2014!

I hope you had a great holiday season and have come into the New Year with renewed energy and a sense of purpose.

Today, I want to share something I’ve learned recently that is helpful as we ponder how we think about our businesses.

Proactive vs Reactive Business Mindset

We all begin in the Reactive Mode . . . with no clear plan of where we’re headed, we simply respond to things as they come up.
There are two major drawbacks to the Reactive Mode:

  1. It’s very tiring for you and your team because it means you can’t anticipate what’s coming and have to always make space for new things in the schedule you have already established.
  2. It can only take you so far because you aren’t setting goals and trying to push ahead. You’re simply responding to what comes your way.

If we want our business to thrive, we have to switch to the Proactive Mode . . . where we take the lead and direct our businesses toward our goals.
In the Proactive mode, you and your team can make strategic plans and goals and set forth policies and procedures to manage the unexpected as it fits into your business priorities.

So what are you – reactive or proactive?  How will you take the proactive mindset and guide your business to the next level?
